Out Of the Box: Permission to Think Differently

Hello friends,

Welcome back on another journey towards a Steady Mind.

It's a new year and I find it fitting that we start it off in transparency. As a "Steady Minds" community, my hope is that we live this year "Out Of the Box." That we find creative ways to break generational curses, live productively, pursue happiness, and exponential growth.

I am of the opinion that real growth always starts is in the mind. If you can change your mind, you can change your life. If you are anything like me, it's easy for your thoughts to get away from you. The mind can lead you into weird spaces.

Where the mind goes emotions, attitude, and character follow.

Most times, the reason we react and respond the way we do is because of the headspace we are in. My prayer is that we elevate our minds to a level that gives us greater discipline in our thought patterns. A great sign of maturity is learning how to process life, love, pain, success, failures, traumas, and other mental and emotional events in a healthy manner.

I feel it necessary for us to free ourselves from the chains of mediocre thinking. In most instances, society and our immediate communities have subconsciously trained us all to think along the same lines.

Our dreams have been diluted by what we've seen around us and what we've heard from those we love and look up to. Many of us might not have people around that we can use as resources or examples of hope and freedom. Hence, it's hard to change our perspective when everything around us seems like it's heading toward destruction and demise.

Let me start off by saying this, YOU DONT HAVE TO BE WHAT YOU'VE SEEN. Please understand that changing who you are starts by changing how you think, and changing where you're heading starts by changing how you process what you see.

Perspective is the key to change. So today, you have full permission to think differently - full permission to dream big! This year, you have permission to look at the glass half full.

You aren't being denied - you are being protected.

You aren't being delayed - you are being prepared.

You aren't overlooked - you are set apart.

You have full permission to see things differently.

Questions Need Answers

Sometimes we need to stimulate our minds with questions that lead us to healthy thinking. Questions such as: "Where's the good in this?" "What is God teaching me right now? / What can I learn from this moment?" "What can I do differently if life brings me back to this point again?" "How can I avoid being 'here' again?"

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism here and there. But, in no way should you feel swamped by negative thoughts. Thinking out of the box should always have balance. In no instance, time frame, or moment of action are you 100% wrong, there is always good somewhere, we just have to find it.

Sometimes our intentions are good, they just aren't displayed, received, or communicated in that regard. Asking the right questions will always lead us to what we need to work on and what we need to work on will always lead us to where we want to be.

Bring In the Big Guns

"No man is an island." Sometimes we need people in our lives who will hold us accountable to the change we so desire to see within ourselves. What good is being “outside of the box” when every time something negative happens we crawl back into it?

Surrounding ourselves with people who aren't afraid to remind us of the boxes that we have decided to step out of is one of the greatest things we can have in our lives. Thinking differently requires us to have people around who aren't afraid to remind us of our "decisions."

If we only hang around those that have the same way of thinking and perspective as us, we'll never grow beyond ourselves. Never be afraid of or intimidated by the views and opinions of people that have seen more than you, been in spaces you desire to be in, done what you are trying to do, or have healed from what you are hurting from.

Don't be afraid of help. Having people to support you doesn't make you weak - nor does it make your story less inspiring. You don't have to do this alone. Remember, "If you want to go fast - go alone. If you want to go far - go together."

Full Permission

So, here is your open door. Do with it what you will. Full permission and free access to expanding your mind, changing your perspective, and doing something that you've never done before. May this be your motivation - your sign to get up and get out of any box that you or others have placed you in.

Your box can be your mentality, emotional state, financial position, family issues, negative and/or addicting habits, just to name a few. Whatever they may be - there is a way out and I believe you have what it takes to do just that.

Will it be easy? Absolutely not. Will you have moments of discouragement? Sure thing. But what you are desiring to do and what you are desiring to see is out there. You just have to put in the work to get it.

Explore - Test - Process - Strategize

Do what needs to be done to get you to where you need to be. I'm rooting for you and I can't wait to see you on the other side of your box.

Here's to a Steady Mind.
